Lehighton Mayor Donald Rehrig called a "State of Emergency" in Lehighton after high water forced closure of several roads in the Borough of Lehighton, said Grant Hunsicker, council president.

Both Hunsicker and Scott Rehrig, vice president, were at the Lehighton borough building watching as floodwaters rose in the afternoon.A borough worker used stockpiled materials to build a small levee around the Mahoning Creek in an attempt to prevent the building from flooding."This is the worst we've seen it in a long time," said Hunsicker.Also keeping an eye on the flooding of the Mahoning Creek was Leon George, owner of the Lehighton Transportation, which provides school bus service to Lehighton Area School District.George said that he had never seen the water this high since he purchased the push company in 1995.
