Nesquehoning Night Out event Aug. 1

Nesquehoning is joining other communities to hold a National Night Out event on Aug. 1.

The event, sponsored by the Nesquehoning Recreation Commission, will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. on the grounds of the recreation center on West Railroad Street.

On Wednesday, Councilwoman Lois Kuba said that a lot of planning has gone into the event.

There will be a bounce house, photo booths, free food for the children, and meet and greets with local police and fire companies.

Various organizations will also set up areas to provide information to the children and their families, and food for the adults will be available for purchase.

Those who attend are also asked to bring a canned food item for a local food drive.

Kuba said this is a good event for families to meet the town’s police and first responders and begin to build a relationship with them.

All funds raised during the event will benefit the police department.

“I think for the first time, this is going to be really nice,” Kuba said, adding that the event can only grow from here.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. It is held annually on the first Tuesday in August.
