Santa takes a well-deserved break late Friday after greeting children and handing out gifts at Tamaqua Depot Square. Retired construction worker Richard Brown of Hometown has been handling Santa's chores for the past four years. Brown appears throughout the area on a schedule of his own making. He doesn't represent any specific borough, church or civic group, but goes about his duties simply out of devotion to children and to keep the spirit of Christmas alive.
