Slatington Borough Council acted on the following items during its monthly meeting.
• Accepted changes to South Street Community Development Block Grant bid based on prevailing wage changes. The bid increased from $212,340 to $215,900 due to the changes. The change came after the bid process was started.
• Rescinded the motion of May 22, authorizing refurbishing of 30 air-pack cylinders at a maximum cost not to exceed $12,000.
• Authorized the purchase of 30 30-minute cylinders for Scott air packs. The total cost is $35,280 and will be covered by COVID-19 funds.
• Approved an annual block party on Pine Tree Drive on Sept. 9.
• Approved a request from the Slatington Public Library to have a Vince’s Cheesesteak Food Truck Fundraiser from 3-7 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the Slatington Maintenance Building.
• Approved a water test statement that stated the water was found safe for human consumption.
• Authorized Lisa Young, borough solicitor, to advise council on an ordinance concerning controlling vape and smoke shops within the borough. This issue was added to the agenda after it was discovered that five vape shops opened in the borough in close proximity to each other within the past year.
• Council also discussed options concerning purchase of a police cruiser. Possible option of using COVID-19 funds for the first year’s payment of a three-year payment plan.
• A motion to adopt a Right of Way Agreement with Blue Ridge Cable Technologies was tabled.
