8 injured in Penn Forest crash

Eight people were hospitalized as a result of a head-on crash on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township Sunday afternoon.

One of the drivers will be cited for making an illegal left turn which police said caused the crash.The crash occurred at 3:30 p.m. Monday on Route 903 near Old Stage Road. Both vehicles had four occupants.Police said that Timothy I. Murphy, 20, of Astoria, New York, was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz SUV northbound on 903 when he attempted to turn into the parking lot of the Old Stage Plaza shopping center.At the same time, the driver of a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling southbound on 903.Police said Murphy's Mercedes turned in front of the Volkswagen, causing the two vehicles collide head-on.All eight people involved in the crash were transported to area hospitals. Police classified their injuries as "suspected minor injuries," however a person who was on scene said that two people in the Jetta had to be airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital.Police said the driver of the Jetta, Patrick McCabe, 45, of West Chester, was not injured, but was still transported to an area hospital.Police said Murphy will be cited.
