The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 5 announcedthat Route 443 will be resurfaced in West Penn Township beginning Thursday. The project includes milling, patching, paving, guardrail upgrades and new pavement markings on Route 443 between Route 309 and the Carbon County line.
Motorists should anticipate daytime lane closures on this section from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The average daily traffic volume in the project location on Route 443 is 4,019 vehicles. There may be occasional weekend lane closures. Work is expected to be complete by August.Lehigh Asphalt Paving & Construction Co. in Tamaqua is the general contractor on the $2,588,400 project. The pavement improvement project is financed with state funds from the state's transportation plan, Act 89.Motorists are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews.Road conditions can be checked at
