Walnutport covers pay for officers’ unused time

Walnutport has settled on an amount to pay its full-time police officers for the rest of their unused time.

On a unanimous measure, borough council on Thursday agreed to transfer $9,543 from American Rescue Funds to general checking to cover police pay (unused vacation/holiday).

That decision comes after council last month unanimously voted to pay out police an unspecified amount for unused holidays from 2022.

In January, council on a 6-0 vote agreed to pay its full-time police officers $7,348 for unused vacation and personal days from 2022.

However, council tabled paying the officers for their holiday days at that time.

Fryers removed

Also on Thursday, Walnutport agreed to remove fryers from its refreshment stand by the baseball field.

Council noted that H.A. Thomson Company, the borough’s insurance carrier, did an assessment last month on all the borough’s properties/buildings.

As part of that, they found that the deep fryers in the refreshment stand by the baseball field were not in the proper position, and therefore couldn’t remain there.

Council agreed to have borough employees remove the fryers, which was done on Friday.

Afterward, council then made a motion to have the Walnutport Playground Association work with the borough and follow the borough’s regulations.

Council also on Thursday agreed to have borough solicitor Michael Corriere and borough engineer Jason Newhard take action to rectify the blighted property at 645 Lehigh Gap Street.
