GoFundMe set up for crash victims’ families
Contributions are being collected for families of two people killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Carbon County.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started to raise funds for Michael Brunell, 42, of Lower Towamensing Township, and Amy B. Hollenbach, 44, of Palmerton, who died in the crash at the intersection of Forest Inn and Hill roads in Towamensing Township.
Police said a vehicle left the southbound lane and struck the motorcycle in the northbound lane. Police said Brunell and Hollenbach were thrown onto the shoulder of the road.
Police said Brunell, who was driving the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene while Hollenbach was treated by emergency medical services personnel and transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, where she died.
Separate GoFundMe fundraisers have been set up for Brunell and Hollenbach.
Paige Brunell started the GoFundMe for Brunell, which had raised $568 of the $8,000 goal as of Tuesday afternoon.
“I am creating this GoFundMe to raise money for cremation and service expenses, as well as money to put toward a lawyer for my father,” Paige said. “My father also had his bike out on a loan, and if possible we would like to use some money raised to buy it back from the insurance company after the investigation is over.
“On May 21, my father and his fiance were out on their normal bike ride and enjoying their day when they were tragically struck and killed only 10 minutes after leaving their home. What was supposed to be just another normal day for them turned into a nightmare for both of our families.”
Paige said her grandparents have been through so much, so she decided to start the fundraiser to help with the financial burden.
“My father was a cautious man and knew his roads and his bike. Riding was his escape, and unfortunately what ended up killing him. My mother had previously passed away in 2014; all my siblings and I had left was him.
“He was our last living biological parent, and we want to give him the service he deserves. He left behind four children and five grandchildren, as well as leaving this Earth too young.
“Anything at all would be appreciated by our family during this time of need. If you could even just share and keep both families in your hearts and prayers it would be appreciated.”
A separate GoFundMe was started by Lindsey Hollenbach for Amy Hollenbach, which had raised $778 of the $6,000 goal as of Tuesday afternoon.
“I come with a heavy heart and keep debating on making this, but I know deep down we do need the help and I don’t ever like to admit that,” Lindsey said. “Everyone’s only ever given one mother in your whole entire life, unfortunately my three siblings and I lost our beautiful soul of a mother, our main person to us all exactly a week before her birthday.
“My mom didn’t have life insurance or anything. No one plans on dying so young or on a day they’re enjoying such a beautiful day (which) turned to such a disaster for us all.”
Lindsey noted the financial hardships faced by the families.
“This money will be put toward an attorney and cremation fees along with a service we want to hold for her. If you could find it in your hearts to donate even $1 or just share this it would mean so much to us.”
