Carbon student columnists sign off for year

From all the student columnists in our school districts and myself I would like to say “thank you” to the Times News for allowing students to inform the public of their accomplishments and happenings in all schools throughout Carbon County. This was great to give our students the opportunity to play the role of “journalist” over the past few months and hope that some information sparked the readers’ interests.

I would also like to thank the principals in each district for allowing your talented students to be a part of this awesome opportunity.

Have a safe and relaxing summer vacation and hope to see you in the fall!

In sports, with an almost-undefeated season, the Panther Valley Baseball Team is playing with their hearts and a current record of 19-1, only one loss to Tri-Valley.

The team also took first in the Rothermel Memorial Tournament. Several members of the Panther Valley track and field team brought medals home from Leagues held on May 9 and 10: Brad Jones took first in javelin, Austin Hadley took second in shot put, Michael Pascoe took third in discus and finally Bella Bochicchio was third in shot put.

These members and several others continued their competition at districts on May 16-17.

The Panther Valley softball team had an incredible comeback win against Jim Thorpe, winning with a final score of 15-14 after being down 9-0.

School activities: On May 18, the Panther Valley Newspaper and NHS planned a field trip to Knoebels. Many traveled to Dorney Park the following day with physics teacher Mr. Reabold to show how physics is implemented into real life.
