New Babe Ruth team hopes to use refurbished field

The Babe Ruth field in Tresckow is going to get new life thanks to a new team being formed.

The Tresckow Babe Ruth 13-15 team - which is seeking a sponsor - went before the Banks Township last Monday to ask for help in rejuvenating the field for the new team.

Matt Lazar, one of the father-coaches behind the effort, said the work has already begun.

“I work at the Keystone Job Corps Center in Drums,” Lazar said. “I got the masonry students there, and they put down cement pads for new dugouts.”

Banks Township Supervisor Charles Schalles said the board has agreed to help with the effort.

“We will buy them cinder block for the dugouts, and lumber for the bleachers,” Schalles said.

“We got a $2,500 donation,” Lazar said. “The donor said if we got $2,500 more, he would match it. The field is in rough shape. We want to bring in dirt, and make the infield all dirt, We want to build one dugout larger to house a concession stand and storage area.”

The effort to form the new team is being made because of the lack of a team. Anyone interested in making a donation, or participating in the team in any way, is asked to call Lazar at 570-578-1301.

Cable proposal

The supervisors also received a proposal from Comcast cable TV to install service in the village of Tresckow, to serve 420 residents and 20 businesses. The supervisors tabled the issue for further study.

On another matter, granite flag holders will soon replace wooden ones at the Tresckow Veterans Memorial. They will replace wooden holders made by Richard Andreuzzi since 2017 that have had to be replaced annually because of weathering. The hope is the new holders will be in before Memorial Day.
