Carbon planners approve Dollar General

A proposed Dollar General in Mahoning Township got the green light from a commission that reviews all subdivision and development plans in Carbon County.

On Tuesday, members of the Carbon County Planning Commission recommended conditional plan approval for the proposed store, which would be built at 1677 Blakeslee Boulevard, Drive West, Route 443.

The plans call for building a 10,700-square-foot store with 32 parking spaces. JLM Investments LLC is the project engineer for the project, while the site is owned by Duschak One LLC.

Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, said that there were some minor issues that had been submitted, but zoning permits and variances have already been issued by Mahoning Township supervisors for some of the items.

In April, Mahoning Township supervisors approved a request to submit a highway occupancy permit for the site.

In March, Cole Boyer, project engineer for JLM Investments, said that the traffic impact would be approximately 300 vehicles daily and no traffic study was required.

Other plans

The planning commission also reviewed the following plans and made recommendations.

• Thomas and Rebecca Boretski received conditional plan approval for a proposed subdivision at the intersection of Pine and Beaver streets in Beaver Meadows. The plans call for subdividing 5.812 acres into two lots.

• William A. Strubinger received approval for a proposed land development at 475 N. Eighth St. Lehighton. The plans call for combining two lots into one.

• Comments on the Jeffrey Ruch Estate which proposed a subdivision at 105 E. Ruch Road and 100 Red Hill Road Towamensing Township, will be sent to the township planning commission and board of supervisors because it precludes any recommendation by the county. The plans call for subdividing 2.8723 acres into two lots.
