Jim Thorpe council ballot set for November

Four Jim Thorpe Borough Council seats, including three four-year terms and a two-year term, will be decided in November’s general election.

Incumbents Michael Yeastedt, Michael Rivkin and Robert Schaninger advanced for the four-year terms on the Democrat ticket, while newcomers Sydney Wernett and Connor Rodgers will be joined by a write-in candidate on the Republican side.

Yeasted led the way with 345 Democrat votes followed by Schaninger with 258 and Rivkin with 240. Challenger Victor Stabin fell just short of November’s ballot, garnering 222 votes.

On the Republican ticket, Wernett tallied 378 votes and Rodgers finished with 289. There were 93 wrote-in votes, which will be tallied later this week to determine a final challenger.

For the two-year term, Wernett will square off against Yeastedt and if one of them wins both a four-year and two-year seat, they will have to vacate one leaving the remaining members of council to make an appointment.

Yeastedt tallied 283 Democrat votes for the two-year seat against Rivkin’s 152 votes. Wernett received 275 Republican votes for the two-year seat, while Rodgers tallied 132 votes.
