The dust has settled and South Carbon County, comprised of Lehighton and Palmerton seniors, are the top team for the 2023 Carbon County Senior Games.
The South swept many of the events in the final day of competition, which included bingo, pinochle and rummy and dancing.
The final scores are South Carbon County, 716; and North Carbon County, comprised of Panther Valley, Weatherly and Jim Thorpe, 502.
The games will officially conclude at 4 p.m. on Friday with a banquet at Franklin Township Fire Hall in Lehighton.
The results of Wednesday’s competition are:
Bingo
• Karen Geiger of Lehighton, gold; Marva Snyder of Lehighton, silver; and Carol Reeder of Lehighton, bronze.
Pinochle
• Charles Furler of Palmerton, gold; Jerry Walck of Palmerton, silver; and Lewis Hirochek of Panther Valley, bronze.
Rummy
• Wanda McNichol of Jim Thorpe, gold; Sherry Dewald of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Dean Fisher of Lehighton, bronze.
Dance
• Polka: Judy Walck and Gerry Dorshimer of Palmerton, gold; Barbara and Joe Herman of Palmerton, silver; and Charlotte Koenig and Mary Ann Appello of Palmerton, bronze.
• Slow dance: Ruth Holden of Palmerton and Tom Williams of Lehighton, gold; Barbara and Joe Herman of Palmerton, silver; and Betty and Al Fanelli of Jim Thorpe, bronze.
• Rock ‘n’ Roll: Ruth Holden of Palmerton and Tom Williams of Lehighton, gold; Judy Walck and Gerry Dorshimer of Palmerton, silver; and Barbara and Joe Herman of Palmerton, bronze.
