An icy roadway was blamed for a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 8:43 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, along Interstate 81 in Kline Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Philip W. Covell, 47, of Vienna, Va., was operating a 1996 Toyota Previa northbound when he crossed a bridge that was icy. Covell lost control of the vehicle which traveled through the left lane for about 120 feet before going onto the grass median.The vehicle then traveled another 120 feet before it overturned and came to rest on the passenger side. Covell was injured and taken to the Hazleton General Hospital by McAdoo ambulance. A passenger, Leanna Covell, 14, same address, was not injured.Troopers cited Covell for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.
