‘Joyful Noise’ video fundraiser underway for Catholic schools

The Diocese of Allentown is hoping to make some “Joyful Noise” in a new competition that aims to help Catholic schools raise funds.

The competition, “Make a Joyful Noise,” follows the same concept as the Cooks with Collars competition, held earlier this year. Participating schools make a video, which is posted on the diocese website where people can go to support their school (or schools) of their choice.

There are 24 Catholic schools from around the area competing. Locally, they include St. Jerome Regional School in Hometown and St. John Neumann Regional School in Palmerton.

“Make a Joyful Noise is an online fundraising event which hosts a set of homemade videos featuring schools in the Diocese of Allentown,” said Amy Hannis-Miskar, principal of St. Jerome Regional. “Saint Jerome Regional School created and submitted a short video showcasing our students. Our theme was ‘We are Family.’ ... The kids had a lot of fun making the video.”

The school boasts an attendance of 300 students from pre-K through eighth grade.

Hannis-Miskar said that it is now up to the community to help the school in the competition by submitting a donation to vote for the school.

Principal Christopher Heery said that the competition is helping the school meet the needs of its students. The school is in a building phase, with 76 students, but Heery hopes to increase enrollment numbers.

The competition is now open through midnight, May 31 at https://www.weloveourcatholicschools.com.

Voting can take place on the school’s entry page or cash or checks can be dropped off at the school offices during business hours.

Two winners will be announced on June 1, which include Maestro for the total amount raised by a school; and First Chair, which will be determined by the number of donations divided by the number of registered students.

Hannis-Miskar said that all votes are appreciated and that all money raised for each school goes directly to that school.

“Every donation makes a difference, no matter how big or small the amount,” she said.
