The 34th Annual Mahoning Township Lions Club community service rabies clinic is set for 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the McCalls Field aside of 84 Lumber on Route 443 in Lehighton. The cost for a one- year rabies vaccine is still only $10.
As per Pennsylvania state law, all companion animals are to be current on a rabies vaccine whether they go outside or not. The fine for not having your pet vaccinated against rabies is $300 per animal.
All dogs and cats welcome. Puppies and kittens must be at least 12 weeks of age to legally receive the vaccine.
Make sure your dog is on a leash and your cat is in a carrier. If you can fit more than 2 fingers between your dog’s neck and the collar, it is too loose. We do not want anyone’s dog slipping their collar. There is a lot of stimuli at the clinic that dogs are not used to and it gets them all wired up and anxious. There also is a very busy highway behind the lot.
Please be sure to bring “poop bags” to clean up after your dog. Also bring water; especially if it is hot that day. If you have a dog that is aggressive to other dogs, cats, or people, bring a second person with you.
We ask that anyone with an aggressive dog wait at/in their vehicle (away from everyone else) until it is your pet’s turn so that we can ensure everyone’s safety. The clinic will provide muzzles for any pet that is in need of one. Owners will be instructed how to put it on.
If you have 5 or more pets with you, tell the first attendant at the bottom of the field as you enter. We would prefer to have those pet parents park closer to our tent so that the doctor can just come over to your vehicle and vaccinate them all.
