Franklin Township has approved an arrangement to ward off continued sewer blockages.
On a 2-1 vote, supervisors last week approved the St. Luke’s Hospital/basket trap agreement.
“We had rags that kept getting caught in our sewer system,” board Chairman Fred Kemmerer Jr. said. “They (will) put in a basket trap much like Mahoning has for their hospital.”
At last month’s meeting, it was announced that St. Luke’s Carbon Campus had devised a plan to prevent continued sewer blockages.
Supervisors at that time unanimously approved an agreement with St. Luke’s regarding maintenance of traps.
The township was provided an estimated budget for the sanitary sewer design revision of $77,349.
There were problems with towelettes, rags passing into the sewer system from St. Luke’s Carbon Campus.
The plan is to install an in-line basket trap system to be placed on the hospital’s property to prevent continued sewer blockages.
