Runners are gearing up for the annual Jim Thorpe Area Running Festival this weekend.

The event, presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network, will be held Saturday and Sunday, beginning at the Carbon County parking lot near the Jim Thorpe train station, 1 Hazard Square. Start times are staggered depending on the race runners sign up for.

There are full marathon, half marathon, 7-miler, full super two-fer and mini super two-fer options.

Group volunteers, including scouts, track and field teams, soccer boosters and any other groups looking to help can volunteer. The group will receive $25 per volunteer on Saturday and $35 per volunteer on Sunday. Volunteers may register online or by calling Tristan at 323-839-7746.

The event is raising funds for Together with Veterans NEPA, a local resource that aims to lessen the stigma surrounding mental health and address the high rate of veteran suicide in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
