Carbon Career & Technical Institute senior Montanna Costenbader addressed the Joint Operating Committee meeting regarding the upcoming graduation, asking whether it could be considered moving the program to Jim Thorpe High School to better accommodate people with disabilities.
“My main concern is for handicapped people accessing the field,” she told the committee, pointing out that some of her family had physical issues.
Costenbader also addressed a concern that at the CCTI field, the families sit behind the students and can only see the backs of their heads.
Principal Michelle Allen and Administrative Director Brent Borzak told Costenbader that there will be handicapped parking at the field and they would be able to help accommodate anyone with special needs. They also said they could see about rearranging the seating so that parents can have a better view of the students.
Borzak pointed out that overall, most of the students had voiced the preference to have the CCTI graduation on CCTI property. Because of that, and because of the planning involved, graduation will still be held at the CCTI Field. Borzak thanked Costenbader for addressing the committee with the issues.
The graduation ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. June 1 at the CCTI Field.
