Tax notices delayed in Parryville

Tax notices are delayed in Parryville because of a printing problem.

According to solicitor Robert Frycklund, “despite the borough getting everything submitted in time, there is a hold up with the printer.”

He said the printing delay “shouldn’t impact anyone’s rights” as the due dates coincide with when the notices are issued.

Board Secretary Cathy Hawk has volunteered to pick up the tax bills in person from the printer so they stay on a timeline.

Parryville was again denied a Local Share Account grant.

While board President Jason Smith “was not able to get accurate answers” to why the grants are denied each year, he learned that area communities rely on professional paid grant writers. Smith said that while he “isn’t a fan of putting out money to get money, we are getting nowhere.”

Other business

Board member Dustin Wentz will be investigating the costs of hiring a professional grant writer for the next LSA grant submission.

The nonprofit environmental organization “Save Carbon County” will be presenting at the May 15 board meeting regarding using sewage and sludge as fertilizer.

Smith said, “Last year we were concerned” about using sludge and sewage on area farms.

The borough still needs a flagpole. Someone from Jim Thorpe reached out to Hawk with a donation, but she does not have the person’s number. She is “hoping the person will reach out again.”

Monica Kunkle says that May is a busy month for the Parryville fire department.

It will be selling funnel cake at the Lansford Plan Fest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29; it will be at the Fireman’s Carnival on May 5-6 at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club where there will be bands on both Friday and Saturday, a basket raffle, rides, food and vendors.

There is a breakfast May 7; funnel cake sales at the Lansford Food Truck Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 13; funnel cake sales at Crusaders for a Cause at Palmerton Park May 18-21; and again at the Palmerton Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 27 with a rain date of May 28. Sellers can rent tables for $10 and should contact the fire department.
