Carbon County is finishing its preparation for the May primary election, but with the number of vacancies, an election board member is reminding residents that official tabulations may take a few days until they are released.
On Thursday, Commissioner Chris Lukasevich, the sole commissioner sitting on the election board at this time, said that the logic and accuracy testing of the machines went well and there were no reported problems.
But, he added that this election has many vacancies in various positions.
Over 100 positions are on the ballot for county and local races, many local races have fewer candidates than available positions, meaning there will be a large amounts of write-in votes that will need to be counted.
Lukasevich said that the write-in positions may take a day or two until everything is fully tabulated and asked for the residents to have patience with the election department.
“It’s going to be extremely time consuming,” he said. “Of course we want to make sure it’s right so it’s going to take some time to decipher all the writings and things like that. We aren’t going to have it right away. We might have a really good idea except for the vacancies, but it’s going to be rough.”
In addition to the number of elections on this ballot, the election bureau staff is relatively new, with a new director and assistant director.
