Welcome back! We hope everyone had a great spring break!

We’re excited to send 16 students to the Hershey Lodge next week for the FBLA State Leadership Competition. Students will attend workshops and find out if they will qualify for Nationals. Good luck to everyone going!

Next week is also the opening of our spring musical “Bye, Bye, Birdie” staring Hunter Andreas as Albert Peterson and Brenna Hunt as Rosie Alvarez. They have been working very hard to put on this show, so make sure to come out and see it!

The Lehighton Indian Pride Marching Band is hosting a cash bingo on Saturday, April 15. The event is being held at the Orioles Community Center at 475 Orioles Dr. Lehighton. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door; contact Stephanie Haldeman at 484-629-7893. They will also have a basket raffle, bake sale, food, and drinks!

Course selection has begun for grades 8-11. New courses have been added here at the high school. To see the Program of Studies, go to the district website lehighton.org, click on schools, Lehighton Area High School, and it is located under LAHS News.

The Lehighton Area School District will be hosting a Health, Wellness and Safety Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, at the Lehighton Area Elementary Center.

Many local vendors will be in attendance to discuss mental health, physical health and safety. Activities will be available for the entire family. There will be a 5K held at the Multi-Purpose Stadium. Registrations for the 5K will be from 8-9 a.m.

We have also selected new Student School Board Representatives to serve for the end of this year and next school year.

Juniors Abby Bauder and Koy Wentz have been selected to represent the interests of the students at the school board meetings every month. They will also eventually take over this news column, so stay tuned to meet them soon!

Once again thank you for reading and we’re very excited to finish out the fourth marking period with many exciting events.

Welcome back from Easter break, Wreckers! Last week our top ten girls from each grade went to the Women in Stem conference and had a great time.

We would also like to congratulate our Scholastic Scrimmage Team on doing so well at their competition on Friday!

Panther Valley

By River Knoblauch and Kyle Lin

David McAndrew will be entered in the national essay contest after winning the Pennsylvania State Athletic Director student athlete essay contest.

Harmony Scholar’s, which is an authentic Panther Valley club of skits and dances, performed two acts at the Penn’s Peak Telethon on April 2. These two acts were a scene of Gaston from “Beauty and the Beast,” and a dance to “Mamma Mia.”

After a long three days of competing, the 8th grade ACE team took second place on March 22.

On March 31, six high school students competed in the Scholastic Scrimmage competition hosted at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit, consisting of Kyle Lin, River Knoblauch, Trey McAndrew, Eli Maynard, Maddison Maynard and Kylah Pinckney.

Throughout the last week of March, several students represented Panther Valley at the County Band held at Jim Thorpe.

The Panther Valley Step Up program has been spreading spring festivity throughout the buildings, distributing Easter eggs filled with positive messages, and if lucky, a “rabbit tail” that could be exchanged for a special prize.
