Tamaqua SD approves IU, technology budgets

The Tamaqua Area School Board approved next year’s budgets for the Schuylkill Technology Center and the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit No. 29 with no discussion Tuesday night.

The STC budget for 2023-24 is $8,209,670, and Tamaqua Area’s contribution is $77,588. The district’s budgeted enrollment is 91 students, Business Manager Connie Ligenza said.

The IU’s administrative/operating budget is $2,737,945 and Tamaqua Area’s contribution is zero, she said.

Personnel

The board approved the following:

• The retirement of Andrew Smarr, maintenance personnel, effective Sept. 15’

• Seven substitute custodians at a rate of $11.04 an hour: Morgan Kistler, Mary D; Annabel Kemmerer, New Ringgold; Avery Deitrich, Tamaqua; Kimberly Rudy, New Ringgold, Breanna Kunkel, Tamaqua, Emily Titus, Tamaqua, and Spencer Gerber, Tamaqua.

Other business

• A two-year agreement with The Meadows Psychiatric Center of Centre Hill, Centre County; for educational services in the event a student is hospitalized.

• Purchase and installation of an electronic marquee for the high school from Bartush Signs of Orwigsburg, a COSTARS vendor, at a cost of $31,500 using the SHEPP Fund.

• A Capital Reserve Transfer of $500,000, the balance of the ESSER II projects for 2021-22 and the district’s contribution of $500,000. The ESSER funds are part of the stimulus/pandemic relief funds from the federal government and are earmarked for learning loss, continuing operations, mental health, safety, summer enrichment programs, Ligenza said.

• The 2022-2023 CSIU Accounting, Human Resources and Payroll Software Agreement at an approximate cost of $22,000, and the purchase of a Time Clock System from TimeClock Plus LLC, of San Angelo, Texas, a COSTARS vendor, for $47,820.

• Policies related to fraud, breach of computerized personal information, principles for governance and leadership, and eligibility of nonresident students on second readings.

• The expulsion of a high school student for one calendar year for a violation of the discipline code.
