Tamaqua police charged John R. Muffley Jr., 42, of Lehighton, with simple assault and harassment following a Feb. 18 incident involving a Tamaqua woman.

Police said they were called to a borough home for a possible domestic disturbance at 6 p.m., and spoke to a woman who said Muffley was attending a birthday party there. She told police that an argument escalated and Muffley began throwing items around her home. Police said the woman told Muffley multiple times to leave but he refused to do so.

According to police, Muffley grabbed the woman by her face and neck multiple times and spit on her. He also pushed her against a wall.
