Students performing ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ in Tamaqua

The Tamaqua Area Drama Club will present “A Tale of Two Cities” Thursday at 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. from the district’s auditorium.

The cast and crew of 69 students in second through twelfth grades have been working hard on the musical production since December.

It will be the district’s largest since “Les Miserables” in 2019.

The spring musical promises to be a fine production and is from Jill Santoriello’s “A Tale of Two Cities,” which is based on the famous novel by Charles Dickens.

It features a beautifully complex story with moving music.

It tells the tale of two men who fall in love with the same woman. One is desperate to leave behind his old life and start anew, and the other is a drunken cynic given one last chance to redeem his wasted life.

“A father falsely imprisoned recalled to life by the daughter he never knew. A bitter sister patiently waiting to avenge her brutally-murdered family. A city of oppressed poor longing for the right moment to ignite the flames of revolution. A beautiful young woman caught up in the tragic consequences that occur when all of these worlds collide,” according to a post by the Tamaqua Drama Club on Facebook.

Tickets will be sold at the door.

Doors will open 1 hour before the show.
