The Salvation Army Schuylkill Service Center of Tamaqua is having an Easter egg hunt from 1 to 5 p.m. April 1 at the South Ward Playground in Tamaqua.

The event features more than 2,000 Easter eggs stuffed with candy for Tamaqua and Hometown children ages 1 to 10 to find.

“In addition to the eggs, there will be prizes. There are toys, cars, arts and crafts, hair supplies and makeup. Truly, just everything,” said Jael Houser, office and case manager for the local Salvation Army.

Raffles for bicycles and scooters will also be held, added Michelle Mehallic, of the South Ward Playground Association, which is a main sponsor of the event.

The association is pleased to host the event because it had done its own hunt for years in the past, said association member Lee Culkins.

The New Life Assembly of God Church will have free popcorn and cotton candy, along with the opportunity for children to have their faces painted.

They’ll also provide musical entertainment.

There will be free hot dogs, courtesy of the American Primitive Methodist Church in Tamaqua, and the playground’s snack bar will be open.
