Slatington to have electronic recycling for residents on April 1
Slatington Borough will allow residents to recycle electronics from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, April 1 at the borough garage.
Proof of residency is required. The borough will allow one free TV under 42 inches or one free computer monitor per household. See the borough website at Slatington.org for a list of accepted free items, and a list of items that there will be a cost to recycle.
It was also announced that volunteer firefighters will get a tax rebate.
“I am pleased to announce that I have been informed by Lehigh County Commissioner Antonio Pineda that, with his help, the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners was able to agree and achieve a $150 tax rebate to all volunteer firefighters,” councilman Zachari Halkias said.
Council passed the following motions:
• Approved repairs to South Walnut Street from East 3rd Street to Race Street if a Community Development Block Grant is awarded for those streets. Two alternate streets, in case the grant turns down Walnut Street, will be North Street from Walnut Street to 2nd Street, and 5th Street from West Church Street to W. Franklin Street.
• Put to bid two road projects, both for South Street, from Main Street to Fairview Street.
• To apply for a Community Development Block Grant to purchase air packs for the Slatington Fire Company.
• Approved application for sale of alcohol for three Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority sponsored programs/events in 2023.
• Approve request to conduct Running of the Dawgs for April 22 from Northern Lehigh Education Foundation.
• Approve an application from Caring Hearts for use of facilities for Fall Food Truck Festival & Rock the Park for Saturday, Sept. 16, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the park and amphitheater. Rain date, Sept. 17 from noon to 8 p.m. contingent upon receipt of a letter of intent and permission to serve alcohol to be determined.
• Approved request from Slatington History Preservation Committee requesting two historic markers.
• Approved request from St. Luke’s Hospice for the 12th Annual Charity Bike Ride on Saturday, June 3.
• Approve a request from Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool Association for use of the corner of Main and Grove Street on Thursday, April 27, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. to conduct a fundraiser.
• To adopt Ordinance 711 concerning spending limit for borough manager and to adopt Resolution R-02-23 designating the maximum purchasing power which may be exercised by the borough manager for supplies and equipment. The maximum amount for Section 1, for as-needed expenses, will be $5,000. Section 2, which is for recurring monthly expenses including insurance and garbage collection, is $30,000. The amounts can be changed by council resolution at a later date if needed.
• Authorized payment application request for Brave Industrial Paint LLC for $38,250.00 for the Digester lid removal project.
• Accepted a quote from LB Water for new reader tablets and software for reading water meters for $8,542.86 (not to exceed $10,000) plus the cost of the borough purchasing two tablets (estimated cost $300.00 to $500 per tablet) using COVID relief funds.
• Approve a quote from Billitier Electric Inc. for pump station meter base for $4,623 to change the meter base and a disconnect switch.
• Approved application and certificate for payment from Billitier Electric Inc. for $36,090 (partial payment for generator project).
