Mahoning deals with speeding

Mahoning Township officials believe more police department visibility is the key to cracking down on speeding in the municipality.

Supervisors discussed the matter on Wednesday, with several wanting more police presence to deal with the problem.

Board Chairman Robert Slaw said trucks in the township have been speeding, while Supervisor Deb McGowan noted speeding also exists on Seneca Road.

Township Roadmaster Nevin Frey also acknowledged the problem.

“Speeding has gone rampant in this township,” Frey said. “It’s ridiculous.”

Supervisors agreed that the police department needs to be more visible in the township.

McGowan said she believes part of the problem with visibility is due to the department’s unmarked vehicles.

“It’s something we’ve got to address,” McGowan said. “We’ve got to fix it.”
