Bowmanstown to discuss trash bids

Bowmanstown will hold a workshop at 7 p.m. March 21 to discuss garbage bids.

Council President Pam Leiby said council needs to look at the lack of bids.

Mayor Zach Snyder heaped praise on council for making the matter a priority.

“I do applaud council for doing this early,” Snyder said.

In September, council approved a 1-year contract with Tamaqua Transfer & Recycling, the only company that bid.

That contract, for one year at $132,300, went into effect Oct. 1, and does not include recycling.

There were also contract options, with curbside recycling collection, for 3 and 5 years.

After debate, council agreed at that time to go with the 1-year, no recycling plan.

Several council members preferred the 3-year plan, but the majority vote went with the 1-year plan.
