Four TN area girls to wrestle at states

The MyHouse PA Girls State Wrestling Championships are set for this Sunday at Central Dauphin High School.

Four area girls qualified for the event from the first ever East Regional event, held this past weekend.

Panther Valley’s Brenda Banks and Northwestern Lehigh’s Katie Brensinger both captured titles at the regional event.

Banks pinned Vida Torres (Pottstown) in 47 seconds for the 235-pound title, while Brensinger registered a fall over Jessica Ayala (Garnet Valley) in 1:40 for the 142-pound crown.

Brensinger pinned Breanna Hann (Parkland) in 1:01 in the semifinals after pinning Skylar Bohn (Boyertown) in 30 seconds in the quarters, while Banks pinned Rhyan Simons (Bethlehem Freedom) in 55 seconds to reach the finals.

Lehighton’s Maggie Pagotto and Pleasant Valley’s Lily Decker also advanced to the state tournament with third-place finishes.

The Indians’ Pagotto pinned Janiyah Baylor (Academy at Palumbo) in 1:52 in her 136-pound third-place match, while Decker flattened Simons in 2:19 to place third at 235 pounds.

Panther Valley’s Haylee Fessler (148) also placed sixth at the regional event, while Northwestern’s Josie Wehr (130) finished in seventh place.

Mikayla Maloy (Pocono Mountain West) pinned Fessler in 49 seconds in the fifth-place match, while the Tigers’ Wehr pinned Sophia Santiago (Pennsbury) in 49 seconds in her seventh- place match.
