Carbon Career & Technical Institute

The Carbon Career & Technical Institute Joint Operating Committee approved the following actions at the February meeting:

• Samuel Lux and Marshall Wolverton, teacher/instructional aides, were approved to substitute for the 2022-2023 school year.

• Jeremy Pease was hired as a teacher mentor for the 2022-2023 school year at the approved stipend of $1,000, to mentor Donna McClain, health/medical assistant/aide instructor, effective as of Jan. 9, McClain’s hire date.

• CCTI will contribute up to $97 toward AP exam fees for eligible students testing within the 2022-2023 school year, and $18 per exam fee for students taking the PSAT exam within the 2023-2024 school year. The College Board provides a $35 fee reduction per AP exam for eligible students with financial need. Schools are expected to forgo their $9 rebate for these students, resulting in a cost of $53 per exam.

• Seventeen graphic design students were approved to attend the “Disney 100” The Exhibition” event on April 17 at The Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, at a cost of $1,416 to cover registration and transportation expenses. Maritza Reinbold, graphic design instructor and Laura Foeller, instructional aide will chaperon this event.

• Thirty-one cosmetology students were approved to attend the IECSC (International Esthetics, Cosmetics & Spa Conference) on March 7, at the Javits Convention Center, New York City, at a cost of $2,503 to cover entrance fee and transportation expenses. Tammy Marshall, cosmetology instructor; Heather Cassidy, cosmetology instructional aide and Tara Evans, approved cosmetology substitute, will chaperon this event.

• The Joint Operating Committee acknowledged the districts who have voted on the 2023-2024 proposed operating budget for the Carbon Career & Technical Institute in the amount $9,096,315. Lehighton, Panther Valley and Weatherly School District. Jim Thorpe and Palmerton Schools are expected to vote on the resolutions in March.
