Two women from New Jersey have been charged with retail theft from a business in Monroe County.
Pocono Mountain Regional Police were dispatched at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to Bill’s ShopRite, Mount Pocono, for a retail theft.
It was reported that the suspects, Danielle Gregory, 30, and Sonia Sykes, 26, both of Bayonne, New Jersey, had a confrontation with store employees in the parking lot and had left.
Before leaving, the suspects removed their registration plate and struck a shopping cart being held by one of the employees.
Responding officers saw a vehicle traveling north on Route 196 matching the vehicle description and without a registration plate.
When police tried to stop the vehicle, it fled and crashed a short distance later on Old Post Road.
The car’s occupants were identified as Gregory and Sykes.
The total merchandise taken was $139. Both were arrested and taken to the Monroe County Central Booking Center.
Sykes was released after booking. Gregory was held for arraignment.
Gregory has been charged with fleeing or eluding police; simple assault; disorderly conduct; and retail theft. Her bail was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Feb. 2 before District Judge Phillip Riley of Mountainhome.
Sykes has been charged with retail theft.
