The Panther Valley boys clinched a berth in the District 11 basketball playoffs with a victory Tuesday over Pottsville.

The Pleasant Valley boys, meanwhile, kept its postseason hopes alive with a win against Pocono Mountain East.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Pottsville-Panther Valley

Panther Valley clinched a district playoff berth by defeating Pottsville 50-37 in a Schuylkill League matchup.

After a slow start, Thomas Buyce scored eight second-quarter points to help the Panthers take a halftime lead. Drew Kokinda added a pair of three-pointers in the third frame as PV maintained its advantage.

Kokinda and Chase Weaver both scored 11 points to lead Panther Valley, now 11-8 overall and 4-8 in the league, while Michael Pascoe added nine.

Pottsville (10-10; 7-5) received a team-high 10 points from Amaree Bainbridge.

In the JV game, the Tide gained a 60-43 victory despite a game-high 14 points from Conner Penberth.

PM East-Pleasant Valley

Jared Moore scored 24 points to help power Pleasant Valley to a 77-59 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pocono Mountain East.

Moore tallied 14 of his points during the first two quarters as the Bears jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead and coasted the rest of the way.

The winners - who improved to 8-10 overall and 6-9 in the league to keep their playoff hopes alive - also received 10 points from Patrick Moore. PV must win its final three games to qualify for the postseason.

Sebastian Fermin finished with a game-high 25 points for the Cardinals (3-17).

Lehighton-North Schuylkill

North Schuylkill maintained its one-game lead in Schuylkill League Division 1 by holding off Lehighton for a 72-62 win.

Zane Zulkowski scored a game-high 29 points to up the Spartans to 16-3 overall and 11-1 in the league.

The Indians - who put up 43 points after the break to cut into the deficit - were led by Brayden Johnson and Cole Dietz, who both scored 16 points.

Lehighton - which was eliminated from making the district playoffs and fell to 8-12 and 3-9, - also received 13 points from Blake Roberts.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

A huge second half allowed Blue Mountain to defeat Jim Thorpe 60-24 and keep pace with North Schuylkill in the Schuylkill League Division 1 standings.

The Olympians’ Andrew Warner scored all of his 10 points in the first half to help his team hold a one-point lead at the break. The Eagles, however, outscored Thorpe by a 43-6 margin over the final two periods to earn the victory.

Carson Kerstetter registered 10 of his game-high 18 points in the second half to pace Blue Mountain.

The Eagles are 10-2 in the league (15-5 overall) and trail the Spartans by one game.

Ben Goldberg also scored eight points for the Olympians, who fell to 9-11 overall and 5-7 in the league. Thorpe needs to win its final two games to make the district playoffs.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Garrett Brandt scored a game-high 22 points to lead Pine Grove to a 50-39 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

The Cardinals, who also received 19 points from Brandon Unger, played spoilers by eliminating the Blue Raiders from making the district playoffs.

Mason Ligenza tallied a team-high 10 points for Tamaqua, which dropped to 8-12 overall and 4-8 in the league.

Pine Grove, which has won four of its last six games, improved to 6-13 and 4-8.

Weatherly-Minersville

Weatherly couldn’t maintain a halftime lead and dropped a 55-32 Schuylkill League decision to Minersville.

Ian McLaurin registered 19 of his game-high 22 points during the first half as the Wreckers held a 28-26 advantage at the break.

The Miners received eight points from both Hal Ford and Emilo Conklin in the second half to help rebound and gain the victory.

Weatherly dropped to 1-17 overall and 0-11 in the league, while Minersville improved to 13-7 and 6-5.

In the JV game, the Miners posted a 55-44 win. Corbin Wagner scored 18 points for Weatherly.

Pleasant Valley-PM East

Pocono Mountain East ran away from Pleasant Valley, earning a 60-26 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.

Jayla South scored 12 of her game-high 19 points in the first half as the Cardinals grabbed a 15-point halftime lead.

The Bears, who slipped to 4-15 overall and 4-10 in the league, were led by Aryn Stivala’s 11 points.

The win upped East to 9-11 and 5-9.

Palmerton-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe posted a 41-28 non-league victory over Palmerton.

The Blue Bombers actually won five of the eight bouts contest(ED), but forfeits helped the Olympians gain the team win.

Steven Korte (113) and Ridge Snyder (132) both had pins for Thorpe, which also received a tech fall from Dawson Meckes (172).

Palmerton’s Josh Merkel (120) and Daniel Lucykanish (160) each registered falls, with Derek King (138) adding a major decision.

Tamaqua and Mahanoy Area split its Schuylkill League swim meet.

The Blue Raider boys rolled to a 119-27 victory, while the Mahanoy girls registered a narrow 91-84 win.

Jathan Krall (200 free, 500 free), Vincenzo Valentine (200 IM, diving) and Stephen Behun (50 free, 100 free) all had multiple individual wins for the Tamaqua boys. Brandon Long also touched the wall first in the 100 back.

The Tamaqua girls received two firsts from Lexi Buchala (200 free, 500 free), with Savannah Wilson (200 IM) and Mia Jones (diving) each adding a victory in one of their events.

FRESHMEN

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Jim Thorpe defeated Blue Mountain 47-41.

The Olympians’ Pierce Gothard led all scorers with 17 points, while Brody Schrantz added 13.

Thorpe also received 11 points from Lee Edwards.

Pottsville-Panther Valley

Pottsville rolled to a 73-32 win over Panther Valley.

Danny Wehr led the Panthers with a team-high 14 points, while Kaden Koerbler finished with 10.

Christopher Hubbs paced the Tide with a game-high 18 points.
