State police at Frackville crashes

State police at Frackville reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 11:47 a.m. on Jan. 24 along Route 209 in Schuylkill Township. Troopers said Jason W. Garcia, 61, of Tamaqua, was driving a 2005 Mercedes-Bentz Cl500 southbound when the front passenger side tire fell off. Garcia lost control of the vehicle which crashed into guide rail.

Garcia was not injured and the vehicle was towed.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported on Jan. 25 at 1:39 p.m. along Route 54 in Ryan Township. Troopers said a vehicle was driven westbound and the driver was negotiating a right had curve on the snow-covered roadway. The driver lost control and sideswiped a 2021 Nissan NV200 driven by Joseph C. Koenig, 59, of Tamaqua. After impact the other driver fled the scene.

Koenig was not injured. He was able to give a description of the hit-and-run vehicle, a silver Subaru Outback.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 1:28 a.m. on Jan. 16 along Interstate 81 in New Castle Township. Robert Campitelli, 65, of Frackville, was driving a 2006 Scion XB northbound when he said a deer entered the road in front of him. He attempted to avoid the animal and his vehicle went onto the berm and hit a guide rail with the left side.

Campitelli was not injured. The vehicle was towed.

• Another one-vehicle crash was reported on Interstate 81 in Cass Township. Troopers said Robert D. Strawser, 52, of Grantville, Dauphin County, was driving a 2007 Toyota Prius northbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle went onto the right shoulder and then struck an embankment.

Strawser was not injured and the vehicle was towed.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 4:21 a.m. on Jan. 27 along Route 924 in West Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Gene S. Allvord, 59, of Gilberton, was southbound driving a 2008 Mack truck tri-axle and approaching the Gilberton exit when the truck began to slide on the snow/ice covered road. The truck slid onto the right shoulder and struck a dirt embankment causing the rear end to rotate clockwise blocking the right lane. Demis E. Zepeda, 19, of Ringtown, driving a 2018 Honda Civic, was southbound behind the truck and attempted to stop seeing the truck blocking the right lane. He was unable to stop his vehicle due to road conditions and struck the rear of the truck.

No one was injured. The Honda had to be towed.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Michael J. Breslin, 61, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2012 Toyota RAV4 southbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The Toyota went onto the berm and struck the guide rail, went over the railing and into a wooded area. The vehicle flipped one time and came to final rest in the wooded area.

Breslin, who was not injured, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest. The vehicle was towed.
