Palmerton Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:
• On a 5-0 vote, approved an increase in the fire department stipend from $1,200 to $2,000. Councilwoman Holly Hausman-Sell abstained.
• On a 5-0 vote, approved the Palmerton Municipal Fire Company membership. Hausman-Sell abstained.
• On a 5-0 vote, appointed Hunter Sell as a junior firefighter. Hausman-Sell abstained.
• Adopted an ordinance repealing the alarm system code.
• Approved the appointment of tax collector for balance of 2022 per capita taxes; $6,515 face, and $652 penalty, for a total of $7,167.
• Appointed Chris Olivia to the zoning hearing board.
• Appointed Terry Costenbader to the Pennsylvania Municipal Fire Department Support Team board of directors.
• Approved the volunteer tax credit eligibility list.
• Approved the 2022 per capita tax exoneration list of $395.
• Renewed the snow plow cooperation agreement with Lower Towamensing Township.
• Approved the renewal of the Palmerton Memorial Park Association lease.
• Announced a change in the bid opening for sludge. Bids will now be accepted until Feb. 3, and be opened Feb. 9.
