Monroe man charged in armed robbery at drive-through ATM

A Stroud Township man is charged in an armed robbery Sunday in East Stroudsburg, according to the Stroud Area Regional Department.

Police say that Brian Eugene Walker, 48, who was charged Tuesday, robbed a man and his daughter at 10 a.m. while they were in their vehicle at the drive-through ATM at the PNC Bank at 60 Washington St.

Police say Walker used a knife, telling them “give me your wallet.”

With the girl in the back seat, police say Walker reached into the vehicle and grabbed the man’s arm, who then crawled into the passenger’s seat.

Walker left the scene and the man discovered his wallet, with $20 in it, was missing.

After looking at video, police determined that Walker left in a black Ford Edge, striking a telephone pole.

Police said shortly after the robbery on Sunday, a vehicle matching the Ford Edge was found abandoned on Chipperfield Drive.

On Tuesday, a police detective went to a residence in connection with the abandoned vehicle and a man matching the suspect’s description came out the front door.

After asking Walker a few questions, the detective called for backup. While waiting, Walker got into a cab and left.

The detective and Stroud Area Regional Police officers stopped the cab and took Walker into custody.

Walker is charged with two felony counts of robbery, two misdemeanor counts of simple assault and one misdemeanor count each of theft by unlawful taking and possessing instruments of a crime.

He was arraigned before District Magistrate Michael Muth and placed in the Monroe County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Stroud Area Regional Police, Detective Christian Capone at 570-421-6800 ext. 1053 or via email at ccapone@sarpd.com.
