Carbon County Commissioners
The Carbon County Commissioners discussed or acted on the following item:
• Reappointed Wallace Putkowski of Lehighton to the airport authority. His term expires Dec. 31, 2027.
• Approved a quote with Access Control Systems Inc. of Milford, New Hampshire to purchase an Ionscan 600, a highly sensitive, non-radioactive, lightweight, portable desktop system that detects and identifies trace amounts of explosives and narcotics, at a cost of $33,098.19 with additional costs for warranty, on-site operator training and shipping for a total cost of $47,310.94.
• Approved a proposal with Vistacom of Allentown to purchase a Poly Systems for the four magisterial district court offices, as well as five-year managed services. The total cost is $35,289.
• Ratified the award of $50,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for the Municipal Assistance Program grant. The funds will be used to update the county’s comprehensive plan and greenway plan.
• Approved in a 2-1 vote to send out formal invitations to municipal officials to attend commissioners’ meetings to present a “State of the Municipality” overview. Commissioners Rocky Ahner and Wayne Nothstein didn’t see the need for a formal invitation because officials can attend any meeting they wish, but after discussion, Commissioner Chris Lukasevich and Nothstein voted in favor of the motion.
• Approved an agreement with Zelenkofske Axelrod LLC of Harrisburg for financial consulting services for 2023 at a fee not to exceed $91,000. The maximum hours of service has increased to 350.
• Ratified a change order with Boyle Construction Inc. of Allentown to include Gehringer Corp to conduct a courthouse roof inspection by drone. The inspection will include evaluating the slate roof tiles, wall flashings, roof penetration, snow rails, pole gutter and leaders and valley and hip flashings. The change order adds $850 to the contract.

• Approved the retirement of Colleen A. Klein of Lehighton, assistant chief clerk/office manager in the commissioners’ office, effective April 14.
