The signal at the Coaldale Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 is working again, according to borough Councilman Jacob Adamitis.
“As everybody heard today, our fire siren is back up and running,” Adamitis told council Tuesday evening. “PPL was there. It was an issue with the power and it’s all taken care of.”
Adamitis said there are a few minor “bugs” that still need to be worked out.
“But it is up and running,” he said.
Last month, Adamitis told council that the alarm - which is an air raid siren - was no longer sounding. He said he hoped that the department would be able to secure parts to repair it.
While the siren is fixed, the fire department is reporting problems with radio communications.
Adamitis said he intends to check whether borough police are experiencing similar problems.
“There are a lot of dead spots and there was never before,” he said.
Council President Angela Krapf wondered if it could be a problem with cellular towers.
“Even with my cellphone, I’ve had Verizon ever since I lived in Coaldale and now I only have service - if I’m lucky - in half the town,” she said.
In other business, council:
• Will advertise for applications for a full-time position with the borough’s street department.
• Noted that work on the roof at the Coaldale Complex is about 75% complete.
• -Will continue to research companies to revamp and maintain the borough’s website, which hasn’t been running correctly for some time.
