100-year-old woman honored in Summit Hill

A woman who will turn 100 on Jan. 23 was honored Tuesday night during a meeting of Summit Hill Borough Council.

Ethel Daderko was given special recognition by the council and received certificates from Mayor Jeffrey Szczecina, state Rep. Doyle Heffley and state Sen. David Argall, who was represented by Brad Hurley.

Mayor Szczecina also proclaimed Jan. 23 as “Ethel Daderko Day.”

The mayor said the birthday wish of Daderko was to receive a letter from the Pennsylvania governor. He said he spoke with Heffley and Argall, who has been in touch with the governor, and assured her she will receive the greeting.

Daderko was accompanied to the meeting by her daughter, Melanie Gilbert; son-in-law Rich Gilbert; and granddaughter Melissa Gilbert.

The honoree has been a resident of Summit Hill for the past 52 years. She is a native of Saint Clair.
