Thorpe administrators get raises
Jim Thorpe Area School District this week released its recently approved Act 93 contract with administrators.
The agreement, which runs through June 30, 2025, and calls for a flat $1,800 raise each year an administrator receives a satisfactory evaluation. The contract also caps salaries for future administrative hires as those already working for the district will be grandfathered.
Jim Thorpe’s board approved the Act 93 contract in Nov. 29 and it was received this week through a Right To Know request.
“It’s been extremely busy for us this year as far as contracts go,” Board President Scott Pompa said following the contract approval in November. “We have ironed out a contract with our teachers, and worked with administrative staff. It’s our goal to continue working toward making sure every employee of this district will at least be heard at the table.”
The new salary caps, per the contract, will be $120,000 for a principal; $105,000 for an assistant principal; $120,000 for other educational administrators such as the director of special education and coordinator of academic resources; $100,000 for administrators such as the director of technology and information services, director of maintenance and director of transportation and security; and $100,000 for school psychologists.
“The salary capped will be increased for inflation every contract to a reasonable amount determined by the district,” the document states.
On the medical benefits side, Act 93 members will be given the option of two Blue Care PPO health care plans. Members will be given a yearly election period to decide the plan in which they want to participate.
Anyone covered under another medical plan and choosing not to take the district’s insurance will be paid $175 per month.
According to the contract, the district will reimburse administrators for the tuition cost of credits and for application fees necessary for the attainment of masters or doctorate degrees. Jim Thorpe will designate nine graduate credits for each Act 93 member yearly, reimbursed up to a cost of $500 per credit.
Longevity stipends, paid annually into the member’s designated 403(b) contribution plan, are included in the contract. Administrators will receive $500 for 5-9 years of service in the district, $1,000 for 10-14 years of service and $1,500 for more than 15 years of service.
Any Act 93 member with at least 15 years of full-time service in the district and 25 years of employment under the Pennsylvania School Employees Retirement will be entitled to a one-time payment of $10,000 at the time of retirement.
