Four area boys teams gained wins on Tuesday.

Pleasant Valley posted a league victory, while Lehighton, Northwestern and Tamaqua all gained out-of-conference wins.

In girls action, Marian won its fourth straight contest.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Catasauqua-Lehighton

Lehighton used a big third quarter to defeat Catasauqua 50-45 and even its record.

Cole Dietz scored 11 of his game-high 16 points in the third frame as the Indians outscored their non-league opponent by a 24-12 margin to turn a halftime deficit into a lead.

The winners, who improved to 6-6, also received 12 points from Brayden Johnson.

Jeremiah Cofie paced the Rough Riders (1-8) with 14 points.

CATASAUQUA

LLA-Marian

Lincoln Leadership used balanced scoring to hand Marian a 73-69 non-league defeat.

Five players reached double-digit scoring for the Lions, who jumped out to a nine-point lead after the first quarter.

Frank Valente and Julius Currie accounted for 52 of the Colts’ 69 points. Valente finished with a game-high 28 points, while Currie contributed 24.

The winners received a team-high 15 points from Nicholas Estrella.

Marian fell to 3-6, while Lincoln Leadership improved to 4-6.

Northwestern-Kutztown

Northwestern shut out Kutztown during overtime to earn a 56-44 non-league victory.

Gavin Nelson and Cayden Fitch both registered six points during the extra period as the Tigers outscored their opponent 12-0 to gain the win.

Nelson also tallied seven points in the fourth quarter when Northwestern rallied to tie the game and send the contest into overtime.

Fitch finished with a game-high 23 points, while Nelson ended with 22.

The Tigers, who benefited from a 16-of-22 effort at the foul line, improved to 5-4.

Dieruff-Pleasant Valley

A strong second half powered Pleasant Valley to 64-48 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Dieruff.

The two teams were tied at halftime, but the Bears broke away over the final two quarters.

Jarod Moore scored 12 of his game-high 20 points during the second half to lead PV. The winners also received 14 points from Zachary Pandolfo and 13 from Pat Moore. Zach Prator, meanwhile, registered seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter as the Bears secured the victory.

For the Huskies, Buster Fallah finished with a team-high 16 points.

The win lifted Pleasant Valley’s record to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the EPC. Dieruff dropped to 3-6.

Schuylkill Valley-Tamaqua

Tamaqua started the New Year on the right foot with a 56-42 non-league victory over Schuylkill Valley.

Connor Dillon poured in a game-high 19 points for the Blue Raiders, who have won five of their last seven games.

The winners, who outscored their opponent by a 21-7 margin at the foul line, also received 11 points from Cooper Ansbach and nine from Cam Lewis.

Tamaqua upped its mark to 5-6, while Schuylkill Valley fell to 8-3.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lincoln Leadership-Marian

Marian won its fourth game in a row, cruising to a 58-24 non-league victory over Lincoln Leadership Academy.

The Fillies raced to a 24-4 first-quarter lead, with five different players scoring at least four points in the period.

Marian’s Addison Fritz finished the contest with a team-high 12 points, while Olivia Thomas finished with nine. In all, 10 different Fillies (7-1) scored in the game.

For the Lions, Hannah Ortie ended with 15 points.

NDES-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh used a first-quarter explosion to build a huge lead and cruised to a 59-19 non-league victory over Notre Dane of East Stroudsburg.

Aubrey Pollard and Katelynn Barthold combined for 27 of the Bulldogs’ 31 points in the opening frame as the home team raced to a 27-point advantage.

Pollard finished with a game-high 24 points, while Barthold ended with 18.

Northern Lehigh, which has won three of its last four games, raised its record to 6-4.

The Spartans, who received 13 points from Cara Florentine, fell to 0-8.

Tamaqua’s Makayla Bartenope posted a double-double, but it wasn’t enough as Nativity gained a narrow 40-39 non-league victory.

Bartenope scored 10 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Blue Raiders, who dropped to 3-7.

The winners, now 4-4, received a game-high 17 points from Madison Kramer.

NCA-Weatherly

A rough third quarter hurt Weatherly in dropping a 51-39 non-league decision to Northumberland Christian Academy.

The Wreckers trailed by just seven points at the break, but the Warriors’ Jenika Krum hit four three-pointers during a 21-2 period to open up a sizable lead.

Emma Kane scored eight of her team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead a Weatherly comeback, but it wasn’t enough as Northumberland held on for the win. The Wreckers, now 3-5, also received nine points from Bethany Houser and seven from Kelly Reiner.

Krum finished with a game-high 20 points for the Warriors.

Aryn Stivala had 13 points for the Bears (3-4, 3-6).

Pottsville posted a Schuylkill League sweep of Tamaqua.

The Blue Raiders received a pair of wins from Stephen Behun in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and was also a member of the winning 200 free relay team.

Other individual victories for Tamaqua came from Lexi Buchala (200 IM), Mia Jones (diving), Gabby Blasko (500 free) and Alex Zehner (500 free).
