Walker Township Supervisors approved the coming year’s budget, with no tax increase, at a special meeting on Dec. 28.
Supervisors Craig Wagner, Kent Heisler and Matthew Koch voted to pass the $606,866 budget.
“There will be no tax increase with the new budget,” Wagner said.
The budget allows for higher fuel prices and an 8.7% pay increase for most township employees.
The township will hold a re-organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Starting Feb. 1, the regular monthly meetings will be held the first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.
Also at the meeting, Roadmaster Chad Felty said the state Department of Environmental Protection is offering a potential grant for replacing trucks.
“At minimum,” Felty read from the booklet, “the project must include replacing at least five medium or heavy duty diesel trucks, or 20% of the fleet, with a minimum of three trucks.”
Part of the grant application includes removing an older, less-efficient truck and replacing it with a new one that uses clean diesel, natural gas, electric, or other alternative fuels. The program is a matching grant program, where the township would pay 10% of the cost, with the grant picking up the rest. Felty and the supervisors will look into the program to get exact details.
The township is looking for part-time snow removal/plow drivers. Contact the township at 570-668-4603 or email walkertwpsecretary@gmail.com for more details.
