Four hurt in East Penn Township crash

Four people, including a 3-year-old boy, were transported by Lehighton Ambulance to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, following a two-vehicle crash at 2:23 p.m. Tuesday on the Mahoning Mountain Road in East Penn Township.

State police at the Lehighton barracks identified the adult victims as Maribe Poretta-Arellano, 49, of Bethlehem, and James Schleicher, 75, Dawn D. Schleicher, 73, both of Lehighton. The boy, from Tuscarora, was not identified.

Police said Poretta-Arellano sustained a “possible injury” while the Schleichers and the boy sustained “suspected minor injuries.

The mishap happened when Poretta-Arellano, driving a 2018 BMW X1 south on Troxell Road, failed to stop at a properly-marker and posted stop sign, subsequently striking a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox driven westbound by James Schleicher.

Police said both vehicles sustained disabling damages and needed to be towed from the scene.

Poretta-Arellano was cited for failure to stop for a stop or yield sign.
