Lehighton’s mayor has urged borough officials to be diligent when it comes to what types of uses can be allowed under its ordinances.
Borough Mayor Clark Ritter told borough council earlier this month that he has been searching the borough’s codebook for ordinances, in particular about adult book stores and adult movie stores.
“I think it might be something to consider,” Ritter said.
Borough Manager Steve Travers said he agreed.
“The new zoning ordinance has those in place,” Travers said. “It’s really important to get the new zoning changes done.”
Recently, the Pleasure Lounge & Night Club held a soft opening at 201 N. First St.
Contacted Monday afternoon, Travers noted the business was issued a permit for a restaurant nightclub, as it’s an allowed use under the borough ordinance.
“People thought that it was going to be something else than it was,” he said. “We met with them; they seemed to address all those concerns.”
Travers said he hopes to see the business succeed.
“They did put a significant investment into the building,” he said. “It’s (nice) to have a different type of food coming into town.”
