The Lutheran Church of St. John In The Heights, 319 South Ave., Jim Thorpe, led by the Rev. F. Peter Muhr, has announced the following upcoming events.
• Saturday evening services are at 6 p.m.
• Sunday Church School is every Sunday at 9:15 a.m.
• Festival Holy Communion Church Services are held every Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and broadcast over Station WLSH 1410AM or you may listen live online at www.wmgh.com and click on the link WLSH.
• Girls Scouts meet every Monday at 5:30 p.m.
• The Bach & Handel Chorale practices every Monday at 7:30 p.m.
• Yoga Class is held every Tuesday at 6:45 p.m.
• Bible Study is held every other Wednesday at 7 p.m.
• Choir Rehearsal is held every Thursday at 7 p.m.
• Alcoholics Anonymous meet every Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
On the first Sunday of each month, we will have a special collection for our Helping Hands Ministry. All moneys received each month will be put into a special account to help people with food, fuel and medicine.
The Choir will be selling poinsettias again this year. The cost is $10. Please be sure to sign up on the vestibule table by Dec. 18. Our Church has recently set up their own Facebook page. We cordially invite you to join the page where there will be postings regarding current events, photos, calendar updates and prayers.
If you have not received an invitation, please reach out to Hager Rodgers at 570-249-7814, or Fay Schlenner at 484-553-1220. Four young students received their First Holy Communion on Dec. 4. They are Eva Highland, Riley Rivel, Kylie Steward and Lydia Steward.
Please continue to bring your food donations for Shepherd House Ebenezer Food Pantry. We have been asked to bring hot and cold cereals, soups, canned fruits, pasta and pasta sauces, tuna and peanut butter.
Our annual mitten tree project is underway. Please bring your mittens, scarves, hats and ear muffs in December. Place them on the trees in the back of the sanctuary. We will be delivering them to the L.B. Morris Elementary School in January when teachers will give them out to those children who need them.
Also, we will be providing a complete ham dinner with all the trimmings to 14 families in our school district as our annual Christmas dinner box project. Please sign up for your gifts on the list on the vestibule table and be sure to put them in the barrel before Dec. 21. Cash donations will also be gratefully accepted.
On Dec. 11, church banners for the seasons of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany were dedicated in loving memory of John Cherb by his wife, Shirley Cherb. Also, the Organ Chimes were refurbished, and were dedicated in loving memory of Dr. Bruce Geiger by his wife, Jean Geiger, as well as in loving memory of their daughter, Linda Geiger.
Our annual Sunday school Christmas Program will be held on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at St. John’s. There will be songs, recitations, and a performance by The Three Wise Men with gifts and dance. All are welcome to attend. There will be Christmas cookies provided by the Sunday school teachers.
Christmas Eve services will be held on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.
There will be no Christmas Day services.
There will be no New Year’s Eve Saturday evening services.
Name of Jesus Sunday services will be held on Jan. 1 at 10:30 a.m.
