The Panther Valley’s girls basketball team used a late surge to post a victory on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, the Pleasant Valley girls basketball team also picked up its first win of the season.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pine Grove-Panther Valley

Panther Valley staged a furious comeback to overcome a 15-point fourth- quarter deficit and eventually pull out a 62–58 overtime victory over Schuylkill League foe Pine Grove.

Maddison Maynard led the Panthers with 19 points, nine rebounds, and six assists - one of which was a pass to Sera Robin who drained a three-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

Robin finished with 12 points, while Natalie Vermillion added 11 for the Panthers (4-2, 1-1), who also overcame a four-point deficit in overtime to pull out the win.

Kailen Felty led Pine Grove (2-1, 1-1) with 17 points.

Pleasant Valley-Freedom

Aryn Stivala’s 24-point performance sparked Pleasant Valley en route to a commanding 51-25 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Freedom.

Stivala netted 16 of her game-high 24 points before halftime, with the Bears (1-4, 1-2) taking a 34-12 lead into the locker rooms.

Maliya Gonzalez paced the Patriots (1-4, 1-2) with 13 points.

Pottsville jumped out to an early lead en route to a 52-32 Schuylkill League win over visiting Tamaqua.

Liv Peleschak paced the Tide (1-3, 1-1) with 18 points, while Alex Blum and Jes Siminitis both contributed 12 points apiece.

Makayla Bartenope recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Raiders (1-4, 0-2), while Samantha Plasha also added 10 points.
