Daniel Matika will continue as the president of the Panther Valley School District’s Board of Education.
He was reappointed during a recent board reorganization meeting.
Directors also voted to keep Marco D’Ancona as vice president.
The school board’s next regular meetings will be Jan. 18 and Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the board room at the district intermediate school. No committee meetings have been scheduled.
The Panther Valley School District will be saying goodbye to a few of its teachers.
During a recent meeting, directors accepted the resignations of Joseph Steber and Steven Christ. Steber is a business education instructor and Christ is a music and band director.
Their last days haven’t yet been determined. The district can hold both for 60 days or until suitable candidates are hired.
The board also approved official resignation dates for Courtney Delazio, a junior/senior high school math teacher, on Nov. 18, and Stephanie Sosnoski, elementary teacher, on Dec. 16. The board accepted their resignations at an October board meeting.
The district hired Elizabeth Hoherchak as a kindergarten teacher effective on Dec. 19, at a salary of $39,308.
Her employment comes under a Type 1 Emergency Permit. The permits are issued by the state Department of Education upon the request of a public school entity that has advertised for a position but cannot find fully qualified and certified applicants.
According to the department, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a state-approved college or university and must meet other eligibility requirements.
