Lehighton Borough Council discussed or acted on the following items during its recent meeting.
• Autumn Abelovsky, who serves as secretary of the Lehighton Borough Parks & Recreation Board, said she was pleased with the Lehighton tree lighting event.
Abelovsky said the Lehighton Borough Parks & Recreation Board could use more members.
• An amendment to the FOP contract to allow for full-time police officers’ hours to go to 12-hour shifts, effective the start of the new year.
• Suspended a full-time police officer, effective immediately.
• Approved the position of administrative manager for the police department.
• Denied a request from Markley Insurance for a 15-minute parking spot at 445 Coal St.
• Adopted an ordinance regulating connections to public water system.
• Reappointments: Tim Ream, Chris Schnell Sr., four-year terms, planning commission; Scot Wingert, Robert Strausberger, three-year terms, shade tree commission; Larry Markley, five-year term, water authority; Chris Schnell Sr., five-year term, property maintenance board; Dave Zimmerman, one-year term, vacancy board.
