Several injured in 2-car crash on McCall bridge in Lehighton

Several people, including a 5-month-old baby, were injured following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday in Lehighton.

Borough police officer Gabe Szozda said police were dispatched at 12:12 p.m. to the intersection of Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East and East Bridge Street.

He said that during the investigation, it was discovered that Herlin Haberman, 86, of Lehighton, was driving a blue Ford F-150 westbound across the McCall bridge and apparently blacked out.

Szozda said the vehicle struck a black Acura TSX sedan driven by Ortiz Porfirio of Jim Thorpe, who was making a left-hand turn from East Bridge Street onto the bridge.

Passengers were Crystal Cosme Diaz, of Jim Thorpe, and a 5-month old baby.

Szozda said that after the initial collision, the F-150 continued into the Sapore’s parking lot, facing East Bridge Street, where it ran over a wooden fence, struck a parked vehicle, and a mountain before it came to rest.

He said Haberman and the baby were transported for further evaluations, and that it was unknown at this time as to the extent of their injuries.

Szozda said the F-150 was towed from the scene.
