Allentown woman faces theft charges in West Penn

An Allentown woman charged by West Penn Township police Officer John C. Kaczmarczyk with receiving stolen property remains in Schuylkill County Prison under $25,000 cash bail.

Jennifer V. Hurley, 29, is due for a status conference at 9 a.m. Jan. 5.

Kaczmarczyk stopped Hurley at about 11:40 a.m. July 10 as he was conducting traffic enforcement and received a hit on the license plate reader for a stolen vehicle.

The car, a 2009 black Mercedes Benz, was reported stolen to state police at the Bethlehem barracks a week earlier.

Hurley, who was driving, was taken into custody on a felony charge. She also had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation out of Lehigh County.

Hurley was jailed after not being able to post bail.

Two other passengers in the vehicle, both of Tuscarora, also were charged. Kayla A. Escobedo, 25, was charged with giving false identification to police. Rayniery D. Rodriguez, 24, was charged with possession of drugs and paraphernalia.

Escobedo faces a preliminary hearing on Dec. 20 before District judge Andrew J. Serina of Orwigsburg.

Rodriguez had a preliminary hearing on Sept. 6. No further information was available.
